Skomer Island, July 2014

Whilst camping in Saint David’s, South Wales I took a trip over to Skomer Island to check out the Puffins.

If you want to visit the island you have to get to the booking point early, there are a limited amount of people allowed on the island each day and you can’t reserve tickets in advance.

The trip over to Skomer wasn’t bad. We were fortunate enough to have a pod of Dolphins swim alongside the boat, the weather was nice and the sea was calm.

The visit was a marvellous experience. The puffins have no real fear of humans and will quite happily walk around your feet; in fact you have to be careful not to stand on any of them. Puffins are fantastic birds to observe, their colours, their attitude and the general way in which they carry themselves makes them incredibly appealing to watch.
