Friday the 10th of March saw The Bodega Social Club in Nottingham play host to a sell-out gig from The Amazons, a young up and upcoming rock band from Reading. The Amazons have been hotly tipped as a band to watch for 2017, with inclusion on the BBC’s Sound of 2017 long list and MTV’s Brand New 2017 list. On behalf of Cackblabbath I got to go and check them out.
Following their support act Otherkin, The Amazons didn’t hang in around getting on stage and setting up their equipment before jumping swiftly into their set. On reflection it’s hard for me to pick out a particular standout moment such was the quality of the whole performance. They were confident and played solidly for about an hour and at no point did it feel like they were padding out the time between their more well-known tracks. They clearly enjoyed being on stage and interacted easily with the crowd, recalling how they had played Nottingham before and were happy to be back. Whilst they didn’t play an encore the lead singer reappeared after the gig and spent time with the fans posing for photographs.
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening and no doubt as the fan base grows and the size of the venue increases the energy of the performances will only intensify. Its well worth the time to go and see them play.
The Amazons are due to release their first album in June 2017.
